5 recommendations on how to properly temper yourself in a bathhouse - dousing with cold water

Bath treatment is used for joint diseases, and is also recommended for deforming arthritis. The heat of the steam room with simultaneous massage with a broom promotes uniform distribution of blood, saturation of the body with oxygen and other nutrients, which renews bone tissue in the joints.

Hardening in a bath

People who regularly visit the bathhouse enjoy good health. The secret of the body's resistance to cold and various kinds of diseases lies in hardening when visiting a bathhouse.

It is necessary to harden gradually, following the rules. The body needs to adapt to temperature changes. Therefore, at first you need to stay in the steam room for no more than a few seconds and then cool off in the shower.

During one trip to the bathhouse, you can repeat the following steps up to 4-5 times in the specified order:

  • warm up in the steam room;
  • cool down in the shower;
  • relax.

The time of each stage is determined individually, depending on the characteristics of the body and the presence of chronic diseases. It is important to devote enough time to rest. It should take up about half of the total time spent in the bathhouse.

Proper cooling is recommended. This stage of hardening is carried out with the help of a cool shower, immersion in a font or ice hole, and wiping with snow. Beginners should cool down gradually. Do not suddenly plunge into icy water.

What are the benefits of dousing with cold water?

Pouring water in a bathhouse is one of the effective ways to protect your body from colds, normalize the functioning of the cardiovascular system, increase the efficiency of metabolic processes and the general tone of a person.

However, the main result of dousing with water is that the body’s thermoregulation, regardless of environmental conditions, is in optimal condition, adequately responding to the influence of external factors. In unfavorable conditions, the body of a hardened person mobilizes all internal protective functions, protecting it from many diseases. Having doused yourself with a basin of ice water after leaving the steam room, you will feel unprecedented relief, vigor and an increase in internal energy.

Pouring cold water in a bathhouse is available to everyone who wants to engage in hardening procedures, regardless of their age. This cannot be done only for a certain circle of people who have medical contraindications. Of course, like all bath procedures , dousing will only bring tangible benefits to the body when it is performed correctly and competently.

About the negative consequences of cold dousing:

Bathhouse and snow

If the winter turns out to be snowy, you should definitely try to take a snow bath while visiting the bathhouse. A snow bath is another way to cool down, but you need to warm up well before doing so.

The steam room should be well heated; it is useful to breathe in the vapors of medicinal herbs. Steaming with a bath broom will help a lot. It is better to entrust this procedure to a professional bathhouse attendant. After a good warm-up, you can quickly plunge into clean snow.

Advice! Beginner visitors to the steam room are not recommended to immediately dive into the snowdrift entirely. If you plan to take snow baths after warming up, it is better to prepare a snowdrift in advance. The snow must be clean and loosened.

Rubdown

Rubbing with snow after a bath is carried out after a good warm-up. This procedure must be carried out while observing a number of rules:

  1. Unseasoned people limit themselves to wiping their hands, face and shoulders.
  2. The body is rubbed with circular movements or short movements up and down along the massage lines.
  3. You should not use hard snow for wiping, as it can scratch the skin.
  4. It is not recommended to make great efforts when rubbing the body.
  5. Rubbing should stop once the skin becomes warm.

A state of chills should not be allowed. Cooling should not be long.

Should you dive into the snow?

There is ongoing debate about cooling by immersion in a snowdrift. Supporters and opponents of extreme hardening have their own arguments. On the one hand, swimming in the snow trains blood vessels and enriches them with blood. On the other hand, the process can be harmful for an untrained body.

After the steam room, the vessels expand, and with sudden cooling they contract. If a person has a history of cardiovascular diseases, it is better not to resort to such radical methods of hardening. Prepare regularly and for a long time for sudden temperature changes.

Swimming in the ice hole after the bath

Only trained people can plunge into the ice hole after a bath. Ice water provides a sharp change in temperature, from which the body receives a fairly strong rush of blood. Therefore, only seasoned people can safely undergo the procedure.

You can use the ice bath for no more than 10-20 seconds. Only short-term exposure to cold is useful, otherwise the body will react negatively to shock.

What should the hole be like?

There are a number of requirements for creating a proper and safe swimming hole:

  1. The pond must have clean water suitable for swimming.
  2. If the font is planned in a river, the current speed should not exceed 0.25 m per second.
  3. The bottom is chosen to be flat and hard, preferably sandy, without cliffs, snags, algae and mud.
  4. For a company of 5 people, the optimal size of the ice hole is 6x3 m. For a smaller number of people, you can create a small font - 3x3 m.
  5. The descent is equipped with railings and steps or a natural, gentle one is chosen.
  6. For beginners, poor swimmers and elderly people, only small and shallow swimming pools are suitable.
  7. The depth of the ice hole for experienced, trained people can be 2-3 m.

It will be useful to protect an ice hole from the wind with snow blocks around the perimeter.

How to login

Being in icy water is quite risky, so at least 2 people go to the ice hole. You need to enter and dive into the water correctly:

  1. Only a well-warmed person and after steaming with a broom can plunge into ice water.
  2. Before diving in the dressing room, it is recommended to wet your head with cold water.
  3. You should enter with your left foot. This will constrict blood vessels more smoothly and increase blood flow to the heart muscle.
  4. It is better to move energetically in the water.
  5. Even a seasoned person is prohibited from staying in the font for more than 20-30 seconds.

It is recommended to dive into a snowdrift after your head has been wetted with cold water. This way you can avoid headaches.

What to do after leaving

After cooling, you need to quickly return to the bathhouse, rub yourself with a terry towel, do self-massage and warm up. You can drink warm herbal tea with honey.

After rest, the steam room is visited again. There is no need to immediately place yourself on the top shelf; heating should be gradual.

What is a “contrast shower”? - This is when you leave the steam room in the bathhouse, and you are greeted by her husband and your wife! Cold sweat is guaranteed! But how can you make sure that a contrast shower is useful and does not harm? Many will immediately have an answer: steam and immediately douse yourself with cold water. Then you definitely won't get sick. My winter swimming experience tells me that even without hardening, diving into an ice hole will not get you sick. But healing in a steam room doesn’t just come down to dousing yourself with cold water. I would divide the entire bath procedure into 4 stages.

How to start taking a steam bath - preparation for the steam room and dousing.

Throughout my entire bathing experience, I have observed a picture when people come to the bathhouse, undress and quickly run to the steam room in anticipation of the light healing steam. Here lies one of the errors in the paired procedure. Nothing critical, of course, will happen, but from the point of view of the physiology of the body, it will react to such a sudden entry by “blocking” the skin from sweating. The nervous system has until now been configured to serve a cold body, and the skin suddenly receives a change in temperature from 20 to 100 degrees in 1 second. the subcutaneous nervous system receives an instant signal to cool the body, and all other organs are focused on supplying heat to the skin from the inside. Getting into the pairing procedure correctly is easy. Take a warm or hot shower for 1 minute. This is absolutely enough to prepare the skin for the effects of hot light steam, wet skin prepares the pores to open, and the sebaceous glands open the ducts. The skin heats up and condensation will not form on you when you enter the steam room.

Even from a hygiene point of view, it is better to enter the steam room without any unnecessary odors of sweat. You shouldn't smell bad, even though you came to wash. The bathhouse is a public and ritual institution!

Pause - cold water. Early out of the frying pan and into the hole.

After the first steam room, I advise you not to immediately take a cold shower. Moreover, I am more than sure that the body has not yet fully warmed up. Although this does not apply to everyone, everyone has their own feelings - listen to them! After the first steam room, the most important stage of healing the body begins - sweating. The longer it lasts, the better for you. Personally, after the first steam room I go into a warm shower, wash off all the sweat and relax. Sweat continues to be released for some time. The body, by inertia, releases salts, fat, toxins and all sorts of nonsense. It is important not to stop him from doing this, but to help him. It is necessary to periodically wash off any remaining sweat from the skin to prevent the sweat from being absorbed back or drying out on you. This is followed by a series of short trips into the steam room to continue sweating. When pouring cold water over the body, the protective functions of the skin are activated. Preventing the body from becoming hypothermic, the skin instantly closes all open channels of the sebaceous and sweat glands, and blood flows out from the surface of the skin to reduce the cooling of the body. This stops the removal of water and sweat through the skin. That is why you should not “block” the skin from self-cleansing ahead of time. It is necessary that the body gets rid of harmful secretions through the skin as completely as possible.

We wash ourselves and give a massage

I won’t talk for a long time about how to wash, because you need to wash with pleasure, without rushing. It is necessary to completely help the skin rejuvenate, rid it of the keratinized layer of cells (not to be confused with horns, which you can get if you go to the bathhouse too often without your wife). And, of course, a good general massage is the pinnacle of cleansing and soaping procedures. But this is a separate topic on our site. Do a massage on a clean body! How to properly douse yourself with cold water? Hardening in a bath

Here we come to the most important point of our article and the bath procedure - dousing with cold water and hardening. I have already written about how to steam properly, but I will continue to express my opinion. Many people talk about dousing and hardening, but do not fully understand the essence of this process. And everything turns out to be very simple: in a hardened person, unlike “ordinary homosapiens,” fat and sweat glands and blood capillaries can contract and expand much faster when the temperature changes. Skin, which quickly reacts to cold and heat (hot steam), protects the body from overheating (in which sweating begins instantly and the skin cools) and from hypothermia (in which sweating abruptly stops and blood moves away from the surface of the skin, preventing heat from evaporating through the epithelium).

Constant dousing with cold water trains the skin to quickly “close”, and running into a steam room helps the skin quickly release moisture and expand blood vessels for cooling. The alternation of these procedures is called hardening.
