Gas burner GF-5A with an automation kit for Kutkin sauna stoves

Construction of gas burners

There are two types of similar products:

  • The first is called atmospheric.

Such devices operate by absorbing air and at the same time have a simple design.

The nozzles do not require automation or various additional devices; it is only sufficient to ensure good air circulation in the room where the stove is located.

The design of such a device may also include detectors to measure oxygen levels to prevent dangerous situations caused by low oxygen levels.

It is believed that atmospheric devices have a relatively low power , but it is quite sufficient for heating medium-sized rooms. You can also note the simplicity of the design of such units, their noiselessness and compactness.

  • In turn, supercharged or blowing devices have a more complex design. The basis of the operation of such devices is the forced supply of air into the oven chamber to form a mixture on the basis of which the oven operates. Due to this mechanism, the correct ratios in the mixture are achieved.

Photo 1. A gas forced-air burner provides forced air supply into the furnace chamber, where a mixture for work is formed.

The devices are safe , since the processes take place in a confined space. They also have high efficiency rates and are more environmentally friendly devices than atmospheric burners.

Reference! If we are talking about atmospheric units, then the boilers will have open combustion chambers. In forced-air boilers, boilers have closed chambers.

General rules for installing a chimney for a stove

Another condition for the normal operation of a gas stove is the installation of a chimney. For gas-fired stoves, smoke channels must be vertical, without ledges. The design of the chimney of a wood-burning stove is often not suitable for the removal of gas combustion products.

You can refurbish an old chimney by lining it. Upgrade options:

  • Installation of a stainless steel pipe in the chimney duct. In this case, the diameter and height of the pipe should be selected according to the characteristics of the chimney duct. The gap between the walls of the chimney and the pipe is filled with non-flammable heat-insulating material such as expanded clay or foam glass.
  • Application of FuranFlex technology. The method involves placing an elastic polymer tube inside the channel, which, under pressure, takes its shape and hardens. The protective layer serves to insulate, seal and internally protect the chimney.

If none of the chimney modification options work, you will have to install a new one. Depending on the location of the stove, two options for installing a chimney are possible: an external attached one or an internal one.

The influence of the characteristics of the chimney on the safety of heating is such that it will necessarily be checked by the Fire Inspection authorities with the subsequent issuance of a written certificate, without which the equipment will not be connected to gas networks.

How to choose a good device?

The main characteristics of such products are:

When choosing a device, you need to keep the following factors in mind:

  • Simplicity of design. In this case, the cross-sections of the paths for the passage of gas must be the same and create minimal resistance to the gas.
  • Room size. For small rooms, an atmospheric device will be sufficient, but for larger rooms the power of such devices may not be enough.
  • Manufacturer of the product. Domestic and foreign (mostly products made in Germany are on the market) units have approximately the same cost, but some similar devices are designed for installation in specific types of stoves. For example, the domestic product AGG-15 is suitable for use only in stoves with a long channel for the fuel mixture.

Photo 2. Gas nozzle AGG-26, suitable for furnaces with a long channel.

  • Type of heating device.

Important! You need to know where the fuel will come from to the heating device: from individual cylinders or from the main pipe. This is also taken into account when installing the stove.

Safety rules when using burners

Failure to comply with precautions when installing and using gas burners for heating premises can lead to emergency situations and accidents: fire in the house, carbon monoxide poisoning.

When operating gas equipment, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • Observe the service life. The burner's service life, depending on the model, can range from 8 to 15 years. Then it must be replaced.
  • Use models with a function that automatically turns off the device in the absence of draft or flame.
  • A stove equipped with gas burner units must meet safety requirements.

Making a nozzle with your own hands

Before you start using a product made at home with your own hands, you need to go through the following procedures:

  • The burner must undergo a quality check at the local Rostechnadzor office in accordance with the regulations established in the Federal Law on the Safety of Buildings and Structures dated December 30, 2009.
  • After this check, it is necessary to obtain a certificate from Rostekhnadzor regarding the suitability of the burner for operation.

In order to start making the nozzle, you need the following materials:

  • A valve that will serve to regulate the fuel supply of the device. To supply gas to the burner, you must use the valve installed on the gas source.
  • Steel pipe. It is desirable that it have a thickness of up to 2 mm and a length of up to 100 mm.
  • Steel cap for making a fuel dispenser. You can also use a jet from a blowtorch.
  • Steel handle. It can be made from a regular fitting.
  • Rubber for handle lining.
  • Wire. It will be used for welding.

You will also need the following tools:

  • Welding machine.
  • Grinder for cutting parts.

For homemade production, an atmospheric nozzle is preferable due to the simplicity of its design. The procedure is as follows:

  1. First, screw the cap onto the valve. For example, if a standard VK-74 valve is used, then the cap has a conical thread.
  2. Then, by cutting the existing steel pipe with a grinder to the required size, the nozzle of the future nozzle is made - its basis.
  3. Next, the nozzle is welded to the cap using wire. In this case, the cap and nozzle should not touch.
  4. A piezoelectric element is installed , which is needed to activate the device.

After this, the product is ready for installation.

Attention! To install a system for supplying fuel to the stove from a central heating system, you need special equipment and experience working with gas systems.

Furnace installation

When installing a finished unit in a furnace, take into account what materials it is made of:

The gas nozzle - the heart of the stove - must be of high quality and correctly installed. If this unit malfunctions, fuel-related problems may occur, which can lead to irreversible consequences.

How to avoid work failures? Proper setting of the gas boiler and regular maintenance will help

Setting up gas burners of furnaces

Private construction is gaining momentum, and with it the demand for modern heating equipment , uninterruptedly providing consumers with thermal energy for heating the house and heating water for household needs.

A gas boiler is the central link of a gas heating system created for such purposes. Being one of the most economical devices, it nevertheless needs to be properly configured to ensure proper fuel consumption and reliable operation.

Issues regarding the operation of the heat supply system of a private home, in contrast to centralized systems, fall entirely on its owners . And one of the problems that has to be solved is the issue of correct selection of gas equipment.

Experience in operating systems shows that a properly selected boiler should operate for at least 30% of the heating period.

The average value of boiler power consumption per square meter of a heated room ( with a ceiling height of up to 3 meters ) is about 100 watts.

Practice also shows that installing a boiler or burner with too high a power can create many problems associated with excessive gas consumption, difficulty in selecting the temperature in heated rooms and the reliability of the system.

After selecting and installing the heating system, as well as each time it is started, the following adjustments are made :

  1. Complete heating of the boiler.
  2. Full opening of the chimney damper.
  3. Setting the burner flame to maximum power (the flame should consist of blue and yellow segments).
  4. Shut off the gas supply valve when lowering to remove the yellow segment of the flame .
  5. Checking the safety automation and operating modes of the boiler.

Important! Setting the correct flame color of a gas burner is key to complete combustion of gas without the formation of soot that settles on the walls of the firebox and chimney, reducing the efficiency of the system and increasing gas fuel consumption.

How to adjust burner power

If the burner significantly exceeds the boiler in power, it may not have enough firebox volume , air flow through the dampers and from the pressurization. In this case, the combustion of the flame becomes uncontrollable, and the burner flame turns yellow.

Incomplete combustion of gas fuel causes soot in the firebox and chimney with combustion products, and part of the energy is dissipated into the surrounding space, increasing fuel consumption.

Photo 1. The shut-off valve helps regulate the gas supply in case of problems with the boiler.

In this case, the burner power can be reduced by closing the gas supply valve when lowering.

However, if the power is constantly set to the minimum value , this will reduce the efficiency and range of adjustments of the system.

Reference! When choosing a gas burner, in addition to the dimensions of the combustion chamber and the geometry of the torch , it is important to take into account the compliance of the passport values of the minimum and maximum power and methods of its regulation, as well as the gas consumption of the burner.

High gas consumption

The reason for high gas consumption is often the ineffective operation of the boiler heat exchanger. The coolant passing through the heat exchanger carries with it particles of scale and salts, which can be deposited on the internal walls of the heat exchanger, reducing its thermal conductivity and increasing the amount of fuel required for heating.

Typically, a problem with a heat exchanger is manifested by a characteristic noise emanating from a working boiler, reminiscent of a whistling or gurgling sound, similar to a kettle boiling.

Making a gas burner for a boiler with your own hands

The main element of a gas boiler is the burner. It is around it that all other elements are displayed. Many aspects of the use of the equipment depend on the design of the node. First of all, it is safety and efficiency. Therefore, many people want to make a gas burner for the boiler with their own hands, which will meet all the requirements of the owners. At first glance, this may seem like a complicated process, but in reality it is not.

Gas burners for heating stoves: features of nozzle operation and safety precautions

Setting up gas burners of furnaces

The burner of a gas boiler converts the chemical energy of the fuel into the thermal energy of water, which is supplied to the heating and hot water supply system of the house. Gas burners for heating stoves are installed in special devices called boilers. The correct choice of burner device will ensure not only a comfortable living environment in the house, but also its safety.

Types of burners

Many people believe that a burner is simply a nozzle through which gas is supplied. But it is not so. It also mixes air into the fuel. It is important to consider that the product must have a special design that makes the mixture stable.

The device can be of several types, depending on the method of adding oxygen to the gas:

  • atmospheric burner;
  • ventilator;
  • diffusion-kinetic.

Atmospheric

The operating principle of this component is simple: gas passes through an ejector, where its pressure is reduced. In this case, air gets inside due to different atmospheric parameters.

These devices have many advantages:

  • simple design;
  • compactness;
  • quiet operation;
  • reasonable cost;
  • the possibility of converting a solid fuel boiler for this equipment - the burner is simply installed in the ash pan chamber.

Fan

In this type of device, air is supplied in the required quantity through a fan. Due to this supply of oxygen, they have many advantages:

  1. There are no restrictions on power - any amount of gas is provided with the required amount of air, which is needed for complete combustion without residues.
  2. The chamber in which the reaction takes place may be closed. Oxygen enters inside through a special air duct. This allows you to completely prevent combustion products from entering the house due to reverse draft. There is no need to install a separate air duct. For this, special coaxial chimneys are used, which in fact are a pipe located inside another. The smoke is discharged through the internal element, and oxygen enters the boiler, passing between the internal and external walls.
  3. Human participation during use is minimized, since the equipment has a “smart” configuration function.

This type of burner also has a number of disadvantages:

  1. Compared to atmospheric ones, they are noticeably louder.
  2. They have a high price.
  3. They only work in conjunction with electricity - they must have their own uninterruptible power supply. Otherwise, they may fail due to voltage drop.

Diffusion-kinetic

Basically, such equipment is found in large industrial heaters. The operating principle is based on both atmospheric and fan heating.

DIY gas burner

Since designing a fan type requires special equipment, let’s consider creating a gas burner for a solid fuel boiler with your own hands. It is best to choose a valve from an oxygen cylinder, standard VK-74. To do this you need:

  1. The outlet pipe is additionally equipped with a fitting, which can be connected to the reactor using a hose.
  2. A cap with a small hole for connection to the nozzle is installed on the inlet side of the pipe connected to the cylinder. The latter can be taken from a blowtorch or stove.
  3. A steel pipe with a length of 100 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm is welded to the cap.
  4. It is imperative to ensure that there is a gap of 15 mm between the cap and the nozzle, through which oxygen will flow. That is why you must first attach three small pieces of wire to the first one (they can then be bent to the desired location), and only then the pipe.
  5. The burner itself is ready. After this, you need to make a base on which it will be located for installation in the combustion chamber.

In addition to creating the burner itself, it is also important to follow the process of lighting it:

  1. The gas supply valve on the cylinder or line opens.
  2. A match is brought to the nozzle.
  3. The main valve opens.

Important! The power of the device can be adjusted using a valve. The hottest flame is green-blue.

The whole setup consists of placing the torch in the center. To do this, the wire holders are slightly bent.

Gas furnaces and burners: selection, operation and repair

Setting up gas burners of furnaces

Typically, a typical gas furnace has a cast iron burner, a fan, a firebox, and a variety of control equipment.

Purpose of a home gas stove

A gas furnace with forced air supply (blowing) to the burners forces air through the heat exchanger using a blower fan. The heat exchanger is heated by gas burners, and warm air goes to the boxes, from where it enters the room.

Diagram of a typical gas stove for a private home. Essential elements:

  • blower and automatic gas supply control system;
  • burner access panel;
  • main gas valve;
  • pilot burner;
  • main burner;
  • control cabinet;
  • air filter;
  • fan and motor access panel;
  • chimney;
  • openings for supplying warm air;
  • heat exchanger;
  • fan motor and fan itself.

The gas pipeline leading to the furnace has a valve that can be used to manually shut off the gas supply. If the tap handle is parallel to the gas pipe, then the valve is open. To shut off the gas, it must be installed perpendicular to the pipe.

Features of Standard Manual Gas Tap:

  • the main gas line for the furnace goes up;
  • when the handle is perpendicular to the pipe, the gas supply stops;
  • When the handle is positioned parallel, gas is supplied without restrictions.

The gas supply level is regulated by a gas reducer and an automatic regulator. The gas reducer automatically regulates the pressure and, depending on the situation, can increase or decrease it to the level required for work. The automatic regulator is responsible for controlling the gas supply to the burner. In most modern furnaces, these devices are combined into one common fuel control unit. Don't even think about trying to adjust the gas pressure yourself. This should be done by gas company specialists.

Service work on gas furnaces and other equipment running on gas is much more dangerous than similar work on, say, electrical appliances or devices running on fuel oil. After all, even the smallest gas leak can lead to irreparable consequences. If you have even the slightest doubt about the serviceability of your gas appliance, contact your gas company or the manufacturer of your equipment.

Pilot burner

The pilot burner is responsible for automatically igniting the gas burner. It is triggered when the room thermostat sends a signal to it, detecting a drop in the room temperature below a predetermined value. It increases the flow of gas to the control burner.

Burner structure

The pilot burner consists of a jet and a thermocouple. Gas enters the nozzle and burns constantly. The thermocouple is a safety device that is located near the nozzle. The burning flame from the nozzle heats the thermocouple, which in turn opens the valve on the gas line with an electric current.

When the required temperature in the room is reached, the thermostat stops sending a signal to the nozzle and its flame begins to fade. The thermocouple begins to cool and stops supplying electricity to the damper, which as a result closes, thereby cutting off the flow of gas from the line to the nozzle and the main burner.

Operating principle of the pilot burner:

  • the burner jet produces a flame;
  • the flame heats a thermocouple connected to the damper;
  • the jets are attached to the mounting bracket;
  • The gas pipeline supplies gas to the control burner.

Pilot burners with electric ignition are also available. The gas in them is ignited using an electric spark. When the gas furnace turns off, the main and pilot burners go out. In some burner devices, the gas is ignited by a hot coil through which an electric current is passed. When the pilot burner gas ignites, its flame closes the electrical contacts, which open the damper on the main gas line and gas begins to flow to the main burner.

Features of use

Gas burners are unpretentious in maintenance. The main feature is annual cleaning. In this case, the procedure should only be carried out by highly qualified specialists, since this requires disassembling the boiler. Most often, burner cleaning is carried out by a service center.

Dirt can be easily removed using compressed air. It is important to set the appropriate pressure. The fact is that some modern parts may not withstand a flow of 10 atm.

To make the cleaning process faster and less frequently required, a special filter is installed on the gas supply. This is done by the master after submitting an application to the appropriate structure.

Well, despite the fact that a gas burner in a heating boiler seems like a very complex engineering unit, you can still make it yourself without any problems. To do this, you need to prepare all the necessary materials and have the skills to work with metal. In addition, you must have several units of special tools.

Gas burner for a stove - a worthy replacement for wood stoves

Welcome everyone to my blog.
Private houses, dachas, bathhouses and steam rooms are firmly entrenched in the everyday life of our citizens. Over time, the standard wood stove is not used by everyone. Some people don’t want to burden themselves with thoughts about the need to prepare firewood and equip its storage area. Therefore, alternative units (infrared, electric) are increasingly being used. At the same time, the gas burner for the stove plays a significant role in this.

Gas burners have a number of significant advantages compared to wood stoves:

  • environmentally friendly raw materials
  • are considered the most practical - a steam room, for example, can be used after heating for 60-80 minutes, only by first opening the valve
  • significant equipment efficiency
  • compactness of systems
  • takes up less space
  • possibility of using automation
  • efficiency - 20-30% wood and 100-120% electricity.

If you are not sure how to choose a burner, know that the stove must have documents, the surface must be free of dents, leaky connections and other damage. Don't forget about the capacity of your sauna. If the room is small, a high power burner is not needed. And vice versa.

Furnace gas burner device

And as a conscientious homeowner, it’s worth understanding a little about the design of the stove itself. Whichever model you prefer, the basic details are similar.

This is a housing with a built-in burner into which a gas source is supplied. There are also relief and shut-off valves, filters and a fuse. If the fire stops burning, the gas supply is automatically cut off. You will also find a chimney, otherwise where will the combustion products be supplied? An important element of such a stove is a tray for stones and with gutters for a constant supply of water to the stones inside the firebox. The stones can be either open or closed inside the oven.

In general, I think it is clear that the burner is the heart of every gas heating unit. It is this element that determines the power of the heat generator, the degree of economy, safety and functionality in general. This is where the mixing of gaseous fuel and oxygen takes place, where the automation and main control mechanisms are located, ensuring stable combustion in different modes.

The usual location for gas burners is the front of the stove (approximately where the firebox door is located in conventional stoves). When choosing a burner, pay attention to the rated power in kW - this is an important technical characteristic that depends, first of all, on the ability of a particular burner model to burn a specified amount of gas over a certain period of time.

Let's take a little look at the classification of gas burners to have an idea of what to choose from.

So, according to the type of control of the burner’s thermal power, there can be:

  • single-stage – connecting and switching off the fuel supply is automatic;
  • two-stage - when the heating device can be switched to economical heating mode;
  • floating adjustment – smooth change in power.

By type of air supply:

  • atmospheric - there is no connection to electricity, the air flows by gravity, efficiency is no more than 90%;
  • inflatable - depends on the power supply, the air is supplied by a fan with the chamber closed and the efficiency is more than 90%.

According to the type of ignition, burners can be equipped with:

  • electronic ignition - does not have a constantly burning igniter, depends on electricity;
  • piezo ignition - not connected to the mains.
  • household - easy to maintain, used for cooking in the country.
  • heating
  • heating - in baths or other rooms to maintain temperature

Furnace gas burner device

For a bath, for example, you need to choose a burner that distributes the flame better, since you need uniform heating of the room. As an option, various flame dividers or distribution tubes are used.

I would like to dwell in a little more detail on some types of burners.

Atmospheric burners. I spoke about them briefly above; I would like to add that in the event of gas pressure drops in the mains, they continue to work. Mixing and combustion occurs due to pressure difference. There is a drawback: it will be necessary to ensure a high-quality air flow in the bathhouse and monitor the condition of the chimney. Otherwise, gas consumption will be ineffective. And there is a possibility of uneven heating of the fuel chamber and the entire steam room.

If a wood stove already exists and you plan to install an atmospheric burner, then some improvements and modifications will be required. The problem is that the fireboxes of a conventional sauna burner have certain standard sizes. If you place a burner there, then the flame from it during the combustion process touches the heater or metal parts of the stove, that is, the burner is located very high. And this will not allow the fuel chamber to warm up properly. Therefore, the source should be as close to the bottom as possible and exactly in the center.

Inflatable burners are a fully automatic analogue of atmospheric burners, and are sold complete with a fan that forces air into the fuel chamber. When installing an inflatable burner in a wood-heated stove, it is not at all necessary to place it exactly in the center of the firebox, because the fan will create forced circulation of hot air.

The disadvantage of this type of burner is that they depend on the power supply, so it is worth considering alternative combustion sources. When purchasing this type of burner, you need to correlate its length with the depth of the fuel chamber, because the flame should not touch the back wall of the chamber.

  1. You can assemble a gas metal stove yourself. What do you need? Have the necessary drawings and certain tools and materials:
  2. Gas cylinder
  3. Wheels from a car depending on the expected power of the future stove
  4. Metal pipes with a diameter of 20 and 40 mm. A smaller diameter is for gas and air supply, a larger diameter is for a chimney
  5. Gas atmospheric burner
  6. Grinder Welding machine

So, if you are interested in the process of installing a gas furnace on your own, let’s figure it out step by step.

  • Using a grinder, we saw the top of the cylinder so that the hole fits into the wheel rim. We weld the seam using a welding machine. If it is missing, use bolts.
  • Let's prepare a pipe for air supply. Take a pipe with a diameter of 20 mm and drill 9-11 holes with a diameter of 5 mm in it for air supply.
  • In the lower part of the cylinder, drill a hole with a diameter of 50 mm and insert the pipe into the cylinder so that on one side it extends 15-20 mm and weld the seam.
  • The gas pipe is welded in a similar way. At the free end we make an adapter for attaching to a gas generator (cylinder, pipe).
  • We mount a chimney pipe on top of the cylinder using welding. Cut a hole on the side for the door. You cut it out of a piece of steel and weld it onto the hinges.

Gas supply can be organized either by direct connection to the gas pipeline or using cylinders. If a gas pipe runs through the site or in close proximity to it, then it is better to power it from it. This will require an investment from you, but it is more reliable than periodically purchasing and delivering cylinders. But the choice is yours.

In the case of urban gasification, a number of necessary measures must be taken:

  • Receive and approve a package of documents (project, agree on technical conditions, determine the estimate);
  • Buy equipment and pipes, carry out installation;
  • Prepare all necessary documentation and submit the work to the local gas service;
  • Enter the system, install and register the meter, start it up and receive documents for maintenance and fuel supply.

You can do all these points yourself, or you can involve specialists, decide for yourself.

As I already said, there is the possibility of individual gasification, i.e. from the cylinder. Gas cylinders can be purchased in various sizes at a specialty store. But when installing it, you must strictly adhere to safety requirements. Access to the cylinder should be free, the room should be well ventilated (you shouldn’t put the cylinder in the bathhouse, it’s better to give it a place outside), don’t fill it with foreign things and don’t force it with different objects. Don't forget to place a fire extinguisher or sandbox nearby.

When installing gas equipment in a bathhouse, be extremely careful. A special sensor must be installed in the oven to prevent the supply of gas if the burner goes out. In addition, take care of the exhaust system and the correct selection and installation of the chimney.

This is the information you need to have when choosing and installing a gas burner.

I think you will find it useful.

With this I say goodbye to you. Until next time.

Types of gas burners

Before classifying gas burners for boilers, you should determine what is happening inside, and this is:

  • passage of flammable material through the burner (in our case gas),
  • adding air to this fuel.

The design of the device must maintain combustion stability of the gas-air composition.

There are several types of burners based on the method of supplying air to the gas flow:

  1. atmospheric;
  2. with fans;
  3. diffuse-kinetic.

Also, a homemade gas burner differs in the number of stages:

  1. One step. First of all, this is the operation of the device with stable power: the temperature of the air in the premises or the thermal fluid is maintained at a certain level. This is the merit of igniting or turning off the burner at the required time. In this case, temperature jumps are observed within a certain spectrum. It is worth noting the rather modest service life of such a burner.
  2. Two steps. The device operates in two modes. When the load on the heating network is low, half mode operates, ensuring stable operation of the boiler and less wear and tear on the equipment. The nominal mode is activated at heavy loads. The power of the device can be controlled gradually from zero to the nominal value. Therefore, gas equipment can operate continuously and in optimal conditions for many years.

As for the characteristic features of a good burner, these are: the efficiency of the device, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide enter the air;

  • decent service life of the device;
  • simplicity of design;
  • ease of installation;
  • noise within sanitary standards;
  • quick changeover from one type of fuel to another. This criterion applies to combined versions.

Atmospheric gas burners

They suck in air like a jet pump. That is, the gas follows through the ejector, where due to high dynamics its pressure decreases. Air is introduced into the gas flow due to pressure surges.

  1. simple design;
  2. compact dimensions;
  3. energy independence;
  4. low noise;
  5. attractive prices.

With such a burner, a boiler operating on solid fuel can be converted to operate on gas. To do this, you need to install the burner in the ash pan section.

Fan gas burners

In them, a fan is responsible for pumping air. Air is introduced in the required volumes. Oxygen is supplied forcibly. That's why:

  1. There are no power restrictions. Thanks to the fan, various volumes of gas fuel can be supplied with the necessary amount of air to ensure complete combustion.
  2. The combustion department (gas) can be isolated from the boiler room. Air enters it from the outside - through a special air duct. This reduces the threat of gases from smoke entering the house.

In atmospheric analogues, a closed compartment is not possible. Reason: natural draft cannot cope with the air resistance in the air duct and provide the burner with the required volumes of air.

A boiler with a closed gas chamber can operate without installing a separate air duct. This is due to the use of coaxial chimneys. They have an internal pipe to eliminate flue gases. There is a cylindrical tunnel to allow new air to enter. It is located between the outer and inner pipe.

Versions with forced air injection can be adjusted independently. They require minimal user input.

Disadvantages of fan gas burners:

  1. high prices;
  2. powerful noises during operation;
  3. dependence on electricity - they need sources of stable power.

Diffusion-kinetic burners

They are usually found in high-power industrial heating units. They combine the basics of the previous two types of burners.

Gas stove as the main element of the heating system of a private house or cottage

It is best to carry out this procedure using a gas analyzer and armed with a table of permissible values of CO, NO, NH in exhaust gases. But first, as a first approximation, this can be done by eye.

The boiler has an inspection hole through which you can observe the flame in the boiler chamber. Let's look through this hole. Now the flame is orange. There is too much gas. Gradually reduce the gas supply using the regulator on the gas train. The flame should become almost invisible with a slight bluish glow. This is the optimal operating mode.

If you reduce the gas supply even further, the flame will become completely invisible and then simply go out. It would be a mistake to think that the more air and less gas, the better the combustion. As the air content in the gas-air mixture increases, the combustion temperature drops, because of this the gas will not burn completely. So the ratio should be optimal.

The starting gas supply regulator can be left alone. It only works at the moment of ignition and has virtually no effect on the overall efficiency of the burner. But you can also adjust it by turning off the burner, reducing the starting feed and turning on the burner to check until it stops lighting up.

If the flame burns with a hum characteristic of a jet engine, then you need to reduce the flame length using the appropriate regulator.

After completing the installation and configuration, you need to check the tightness of all connections and the absence of gas leaks. This is done with soapy water (it is best to use a liquid for blowing soap bubbles, diluted with water 1/1). The liquid is applied to the joints. If there is a leak, bubbles appear. You should absolutely not check the tightness with an open flame.

Using gas to heat a steam room is attractive due to its price and the fact that there is no need to bother with the preparation, storage, and drying of firewood. In some regions, wood is a luxury, and not many people can burn it in a stove. In this case, the best option is gas. Natural or liquefied - it doesn’t matter, you can use both. All you need is a gas burner for the sauna stove.

You can install two types of gas burners in the sauna: atmospheric and forced. Atmospheric ones are cheaper and work autonomously without electricity. They are one or more hollow tubes into which gas is supplied under pressure. The air necessary for productive combustion of gas is taken directly from the room in which the stove is installed. It is mixed with gas, then the gas-air mixture is ignited using electric or piezo lighters.

The structure of an atmospheric gas burner

It is in the mechanism of operation that the main drawback of atmospheric models lies - good traction is required, as well as an effective ventilation system that ensures air flow. The dependence of this type of equipment on the state of the atmosphere in the room from which the bathhouse is heated causes a lot of trouble. With each more or less active movement of air, the proportions of the gas-air mixture change, which leads to a change in the amount of heat that is released.

What is also important is that an atmospheric burner cannot be simply placed in a wood-burning sauna stove if this was not provided for during the design. If this is done in stoves with an internal heater, the flame will rest against the stone container. And the gas must burn in the air, without contact with metal. If you put an atmospheric burner in a stove without a heater, the gas burns normally, but only the upper part of the fuel compartment heats up - the flame is directed upward and the lower part remains almost without heating, which reduces the heating rate of the steam room.

One more point: experts advise installing only gas burners specially designed for them in sauna stoves. They are longer than usual, since they are designed for a remote firebox (when using gas, it is necessary to heat only from the room adjacent to the steam room). One problem: they are several times more expensive than conventional ones used for heating boilers.

The second type of gas burners for sauna stoves is fan or forced-air, blown (these are all different names for the same design). In them, gas is mixed with air using a fan. Its rotation speed is adjusted during installation. Subsequently, the parameters of the atmosphere in the bathhouse have little effect on the intensity of gas combustion. Structurally, it looks like a block with attached sensors and a controller.

Scheme of operation of a burner with a fan

This type of equipment is on average two times more economical than atmospheric type installations. Their disadvantage is their volatility (they only work when there is a power supply) and their high price - 2-3 times higher than atmospheric ones. Nothing can be done about the price, but you can reduce the dependence on the availability of power if you create a backup source (battery or diesel generator).

The advantage of forced-air gas burners is that they can be installed in wood-burning stoves. You just need to select a model so that the flame does not rest against the back wall of the firebox (use short-flame models). Wood-burning sauna stoves are designed for the combustion temperature of wood - this is about 800°C. When gas burns, the temperature at the top of the flame can reach 1600°C.

The positive aspect of burners with fans is the ability to adjust to any power and switch to liquefied gas (and vice versa).

Pressurized gas burner from Termofor

Like any gas equipment, installing burners on a sauna stove requires permission from the gas supply organization. If we talk about the use of atmospheric models, they are very reluctant to issue them. When issuing, the following requirements apply:

  • good ventilation system;
  • excellent adjustable traction;
  • a room with a volume of at least 12 m3;
  • ensuring fire safety measures when installing the stove;
  • insulation of the chimney as it passes through the ceiling and roof;
  • the presence of a spark arrestor at the top of the pipe.

If these requirements are met and you have a Certificate of Compliance and a Rostechnadzor permit, you may be given a permit.

When installing pressurized gas burners, permission is also required, but some requirements for the premises are not imposed (ventilation, draft and volume are unimportant, all others remain in force). When following the installation rules, it is enough to have certificates of conformity and an operating permit from Rostechnidzor (included upon purchase).

Atmospheric gas burner for a bath: appearance

But this is only when using main gas. Liquefied gas must be stored somewhere. According to the requirements of the pozhnadkhor - in a separate room. And this is not a dressing room, canopy, etc. This must be a separate room. In principle, a free-standing metal cabinet or gas holder is suitable for storing liquefied gas cylinders - an underground container measuring 3 cubic meters or more (should be located no closer than 5 meters to the building).

A pipeline is laid from the gas storage site to the furnace. It must be made of non-flammable materials - copper or steel pipes. It must be completely sealed (be sure to check all connections).

Most often, atmospheric burners of the UGOP type are installed in sauna stoves. They are available in different modifications - from 8 kW to 30 kW. There are models equipped with draft presence sensors, a gas shut-off valve, and flame control. All these options increase the safety of using gas equipment, but at the same time they raise the price and also make repairs more difficult (and expensive).

Technical characteristics of UGOP 12, 16, 30

Please note that there are dozens of manufacturers of this equipment, and some parameters may vary. Be sure to read the description and technical specifications of the specific equipment model. The description must indicate that the device can be used in sauna stoves. Before purchasing, be sure to find out the physical parameters of the burner (at least the length of the tubes) and decide whether this modification is suitable.

Burner UGOP-P 16 with micro-flare burners

Recently, a modification of this type of equipment has appeared with holes in the form of long slits-slots, rather than circles (drilled, because the holes are drilled). Due to the presence of slots, such a burner is called a slot burner. Such a seemingly insignificant detail greatly influences the combustion pattern. You can see the difference in the video.

Doing something with your own hands is a pleasure, and often brings significant savings. But in the case of gas burners, it’s better not to take risks: you can’t be sure that you did everything right, and the cost of a mistake is too high. At the same time, the cost of an atmospheric burner is only about $20. It's not worth it. The only thing you can do is change the parameters of the distribution pipes. This part can be redone without much risk.

One more thing: you will never get permission to use a homemade burner. You can, of course, install equipment without permission, but the fines are too high.

This is the information you need to have when choosing and installing a gas burner.

I think you will find it useful.

With this I say goodbye to you. Until next time.

It’s not for nothing that people call gas stoves “bombs” - and all because people are used to trusting sellers at their word and at one time purchased stoves of dubious origin. Because of what - explosions, fires, burns. This is why there is a common myth that gas and electric stoves for steam rooms are taboo.

The process of creating a burner yourself

A homemade version of the burner for gas boilers operating on solid fuel can be made based on a valve from a gas cylinder, more precisely an oxygen one. A homemade fitting must be inserted into its outlet pipe. It can then be attached to the gearbox. The connecting element becomes a rubber-fabric hose when manufactured independently.

The inlet pipe enters the cylinder itself during the manufacturing process. You need to put a cap on it. A hole is made in the cap for connecting a jet, which is taken from a gas stove or a blowtorch.

Using welding, a nozzle is attached to a homemade cap. The nozzle is a steel pipe element. Its length is 10 cm. Wall density is 2 mm.

The cap and the nozzle separate some space - 1.5 cm. Air is drawn in through it. For this reason, three thick wire elements are first attached to the cap in the same way. And a pipe-nozzle is mounted to them.

The methods for igniting this homemade product are as follows: opening a tap on the main gas network, or on a cylinder (it is needed when using a liquefied gas format).

The nozzle holds a fire source: a match, a lighter or a lit paper wick. Production is not difficult, at first glance.

Doing something yourself is always nice. This, in turn, can also provide significant cost savings. However, making gas burners for a sauna stove with your own hands is too risky.

Without the proper skills and experience, you can make mistakes, the cost of which in this case can be extremely high. Atmospheric sauna burners don't cost that much. So it’s better to use ready-made options.

gas stove

The situation is different with a solid fuel boiler for indoor use. It can, if desired, be converted to gas. An ordinary person can install an atmospheric gas burner with his own hands.

In addition, the boiler can be automated by placing all the necessary equipment outside. At the same time, the device will be inferior to a conventional gas boiler in compactness. If the dimensions of the heating system are an important criterion, then it is better to pay attention to ready-made products.

The camping burner can also be upgraded. Unlike heating boilers, in many cases improvements are simply necessary.

During the cooking process, it is very important that the heat supplied to the heated container is not carried away by the wind. It is also important to protect the fire from being blown out. Wind protection is used for these purposes.

The options offered in stores are quite expensive. A profitable solution is to manufacture this element yourself.

In order to manufacture wind protection, first of all, it is necessary to decide on the material. Aluminum sheets are a suitable option. The main thing is that they are thin. This will ensure ease of working with them.

In addition, the thinner the material, the less it will weigh, and during long hikes, weight is of particular importance.

It is necessary to construct a hollow cylinder from the sheets. Its height should be sufficient to cover the burner and the container in which food will be cooked. The process of making a windbreak will not take too much time.

Anyone can cope with this task. So why pay an extra price to the store for purchasing this design if you can do everything yourself?

Service details

Maintenance of gas burners of any homemade version involves only cleaning it. This process must be annual. Doing it yourself is not recommended. After all, you will have to disassemble and reassemble the boiler. As a rule, people turn to service centers for service. Accumulated contaminants are eliminated by air blowing. The air here is compressed.

The pressure to the burners must be adjusted carefully. For example, for some current versions of burners, parameters of 8-10 atm can be detrimental.

The need for cleaning the burner can be reduced significantly if a filter is installed on the gas supply pipe. This work is performed by a gas service employee, who should be contacted with a special request.

What types of burners are there?

If a gas burner is considered from the point of view of the method of controlling thermal power, then all models can be divided into the following categories:

  1. Single stage . In this case, gas supply (switching off) occurs automatically, based on a rheostat signal.
  2. Two-stage . The burner has the design ability to switch to an economical mode. This process is regulated automatically.
  3. Burners with floating adjustment . The burner power can be changed smoothly, from 10 to 100 percent.

Is it possible to make a gas burner for a boiler with your own hands? Questions and answers

Modification of heating equipment, or simply put, its improvement, is necessary to improve operating efficiency. Servicing solid fuel boilers and constantly monitoring the level of firewood or coal in the firebox sometimes pushes owners to solve non-standard problems. If it becomes possible to connect the house to the gas main, but there is no desire to buy a new special boiler, they begin to come up with homemade devices for heating water in the heat exchanger of heating equipment.

It is necessary to immediately make a reservation that any handicraft products intended for heating systems must undergo a number of checks, namely:

  • Obtaining a quality certificate.
  • Permits from the State Technical Supervision Authority.
  • Checking the design for compliance with quality and operational parameters.

Atmospheric burners

These are the cheapest, easiest to manufacture and use burners, with which you can quickly and cost-effectively convert your wood-burning stove to gas (see photo below).

Atmospheric burners do not depend on the presence of electricity; their operation does not stop when the gas pressure in the main line changes. The mixing and combustion of the gas mixture in the firebox occurs due to the pressure difference, i.e. in a natural way, hence the main drawback - the bathhouse will need to be additionally equipped with a high-quality air flow, as well as monitor the condition of the chimney.

Installing atmospheric burners in existing wood stoves usually requires additional modifications and improvements, both to the fuel chamber itself and to the dimensions of the burner. The fact is that the fireboxes of a conventional sauna stove have more or less standard sizes; By placing a burner there, we get a situation where the flame from it, when burning, touches the bottom of the heater, or the metal parts of the stove, i.e.

the burner is too high. This is unacceptable, since for proper heating of the fuel chamber and the entire furnace, it is necessary that the flame heats the air, and the source must be as close as possible to the bottom and exactly in the center. According to reviews from people who have already converted their wood-burning sauna stoves to gas, this is quite possible, although it requires some effort.

Manufacturing and installation of a burner in a closed gas furnace

Let's consider two options - make a burner from scratch, using the recommendations of experienced home craftsmen, or use a ready-made design, adapting/modifying some of its characteristics. It should be noted that in the first case you should have very high qualifications, as well as have experience in setting up and, at a minimum, repairing such devices. Otherwise, the matter may end in an explosion, burns, and other troubles.

The easiest way for a forge is to make a ball burner, which belongs to the group of fuel-burning units with a tangential supply of a torch to the working space of the forge. This burner consists of the following parts:

  1. Confusion bell made of heat-resistant steel type X18N9T.
  2. Steel tubular body shaped like a double truncated cone.
  3. Gas supply head.
  4. Air supply head.
  5. Mouths.
  6. Regulators for the amount of gas-air mixture.

To make such a burner you need: 1.5-inch pipes, a sheet blank with a thickness of at least 1.2 mm for the confuser, two fittings and three flanges for connecting the elements. It is better to make a welded structure from heat-resistant steel, and welding must be done under submerged arc or using inert gas. High-pressure hoses can be used as air and gas supply pipes, the diameters of which will correspond to the connecting dimensions of the housing. Fixing clamps and high-quality seals made of gasoline-oil-resistant high-temperature rubber are also required. All other elements are connected using threads.

On some websites there are recommendations for making a burner body by rolling a tubular blank. But at high jet pressures, plastic hardening of the material can lead to the emergence of zones of internal stress, which, when starting the burner, often cause cracking in the body metal.

The option of installing a burner from a used gas stove is much simpler. You will first need to determine the fuel costs required to quickly heat the metal for forging. When selecting a finished design, the power of the main unit (boiler, stove, etc.) for which the device was used is established. The product of this value by the efficiency (for gas it is 0.89...0.93) gives the desired power value W. It is a little more difficult to establish the gas consumption T. The calculation algorithm is as follows:

  • The calorific value of the fuel Q is determined (for propane, 3600 kJ/m3 can be taken);
  • Using the formula T = 3.6W/Q, the flow rate is determined.
  • Based on the calculation results, all the necessary shut-off and control valves are selected: valves, tees, o-rings, etc.

Installing a burner in a forge for forging with your own hands is done as follows. First, a confuser is inserted into the prepared lining hole, and the burner mouth is attached to it through a sheet gasket made of heat-resistant steel. The product itself is attached to it, and tubes for supplying air and gas are screwed in. They check the effectiveness of the regulators, after which they carry out a test run of gas from a cylinder or a stationary network. All work must be carried out in a well-ventilated area. At the slightest smell of gas, installation work is stopped and the source of possible leaks is determined.

Gas burners, also called burners, are key design elements of any gas furnace.

The task of such a device is to create a mixture of fuel , in this case natural gas, and air in order to maintain the combustion process in the heating device.
